Dell might have made efforts to hide problems with its machines after all, according to recently unsealed court records. The New York Times went through hundreds of documents related to the lawsuit that Advanced Internet Technologies brought against Dell, and found that Dell knew much more about its computer problems than it let on, all while continuing to sell the machines to the public. Dell settled the lawsuit earlier this year, but the revelation is troubling. This lawsuit goes back to 2007, when Advanced Internet Technologies accused Dell of making efforts to conceal known defects in its desktop machines. The suit was settled in September of this year, though the companies did not disclose the terms of the agreement. A federal judge unsealed the documents on Thursday, however, revealing that much more was going on behind the scenes. Read the comments on this post

Dell Settles in Court over Alleged Defective Capacitor Cover-Up
September 27th, 2010
admin Mass hysteria over an alleged Dell cover up has been an ongoing thorn in the companies side for months now, but despite attempts to repair the damage using the media, it now appears as though they are simply going to pay whatever it takes to make the problem go away . An undisclosed settlement amount will be paid to lawsuit plaintiff Advanced Internet Technologies which Dell hopes will finally put an end to the media firestorm surrounding the Optiplex brand of business desktops. Dell’s only comment was to say that “Settling the matter is better and more cost effective for the company than taking the case to trial”. Since the case will never be fully heard out in court and the settlement details are being kept private we may never actually know the truth, however, I’m sure the monetary damages from this debacle are going to be far less punitive than the long term impact on the brand.

Corsair Starts Shipping Professional Series Gold PSUs
August 27th, 2010
admin Corsair today announced the general retail availability of its Professional Series Gold line of power supplies, including the AX1200, AX850, and AX750. “The response of early users and reviewers to the Professional Series Gold PSUs has been phenomenal,” sated Ruben Mookerjee, VP and General Manager of Components at Corsair. “We have been working overtime to meet the demand for this ultra-efficient, fully modular PSU, and are thrilled to announce that these highly anticipated products are now widely available from Corsair’s retailers.” In addition to being modular, all three units feature 80 PLUS Gold certification, which means they should deliver over 90 percent efficiency at 50 percent load. Corsair claims this was made possible by “utilizing server-grade power train architectures designed for mission-critical levels of voltage stability and reliability.” Other features include a single +12V rail rated at up to 100.4A (AX1200), individual DC-DC regulation for 3.3V, 5V, and 12V rails, and a whole bunch of other technologies that makes us wish we took an electrical engineering class. Get all the geeky details here . A quick glance at Newegg shows street pricing hovering at $300 (AX1200), $190 (AX850), and $170 (AX750). Image Credit: Corsair
